When you gotta play , play hard , and if we talk about wines in Piedmont we find hard as you want , starting with this 2007 Barbaresco DOCG Mantico Bersano . Let’s have look on it , here on MoreWineBeer.
Hard to the limit of pleasure (avoid puns ) this Mantico 2007 Barbaresco DOCG Bersano kept me in suspense until the last moment with the question of whether or not to post this review .
For sure it is a great wine, but for my personal taste remains suspended between the pleasant and the unpleasant.
I repeat it is a matter of personal taste because I like the soft and velvety wine , although not necessarily fruity .
How this Mantico Barbaresco DOCG 2007 by Bersano is ? Dark purplish red color , very dark , combined with its awe-inspiring 14% since the beginning , start to scary me. It should be uncorked in advance, to get some air , this wine is 5 years old who has had two years of maturation in oak barrels and one year in bottle .
Special scents emerge from the glass , the red fruit is dormant , pungent aromas of citrus take over then to leave room for dried fruit and cocoa.
Now comes the hard part , because drinking is challenging, as initially mild but then shows that alcohol is the master and the palate leads to a prolonged exposure to its aggressive tannins , ending in a final short and truncated.
A wine to use at table, which due to its strength (or we could say because of his strength ) can only accompany main dishes such as venison , braised meats and mature and tasty cheeses . What consoles me is that it is a very long-lived wine that promises to improve over time, so try to drink one in 2018 to see if it reaches a good level of softness.
